The red-oak bark comes from the tree that became the chair (Highland Park, Greenfield MA). The charcoal objects (black cherry bark, red oak acorns, and eastern white pine cones) were collected in the forest at the Smith College Ada and Archibald Macleish Field Station, site of the project To Understand a Tree.
