Realometric Experiments
2014
Project Mentor: Sara Smith
Survey Description: These "Realometric Exercises" were inspired by "Where I Lived and What I Lived For," Chapter 2 of "Walden." The perceptual exercises were developed specifically for Walden Pond by choreographer Smith, based on mentions in "Walden" of visual and natural phenomena, and are designed to subvert habitual perceptual patterns. As the artist practicing the exercises, I was made to see the environment of Walden Pond "deliberately," both from the shore and from the boat, just as Thoreau wished to live at the pond.
